October 2020
As we said in our last report we did start our harvest on August 28th, the second earliest vintage of the modern age after 2003’s August 27th.
With our 25-30 picker team and our mountain guys to carry the grapes, we did start the harvest in our Petit Chablis (which actually had suffer from the July’s heat), then came our Grand Cru and 1er Cru, and at last our Chablis Village.
The harvest was done under exceptional weather conditions. The quality of the grapes (except one or two parcels showing little damages due to the heat in July) was great, showing no rot, a nice natural alcohol degree and a good level of acidity. Overall we are very happy with this 2020 vintage in terms of quality but also in terms of quantity !
How good will it be ? Time will tell but definitely it cannot be bad.
At the moment we are finishing our 2018 and just starting with the Chablis and Premier Cru Vaillon 2019. Our Grand Cru will be bottled at the end of the year.
With the launch of our new web site here is the latest news about the Domaine!
With the 2018 harvest which gave us entire satisfaction in terms of quality but also in terms of volume, we finally had the opportunity to rebuild our stocks after 3 small vintages 2015-2016-2017.
However, again in 2019 we had another small volume very variable following our different appellations, down between -15 to -30 % but still with a great quality though.
At the moment we are still working with the 2018 vintage and we have bottled a small amount of Chablis and Ier Cru Vaillon at the end of June. The rest with the Grands Crus by the end of the year or beginning of 2021.
At this stage, 2020 is in a good start: we avoided the spring frost and the flowering was done by May 30. The summer has been very hot but hopefully it has been raining mid-august. We will be starting our harvest on August 28th.
During the quarantine because of the Covid-19, we could manage to ship nearly all the reserves ordered by our clients around the world and of course we do not expect a normal situation before fall, despite some good news from many countries where sales online and by retail stores are very positive.
As for the French market, we are very keen to support our dear partners restaurants and retailers and we hope that the summer season allowed them to compensate for their losses and that their activity will get back to “normal” as soon as possible.
